Antique Armoires

Armoires have had a place in interior design for centuries.
They were created for functional purposes, but evolved into pieces of art.

While some are refined and elegant...

others can be rustic or whimsical.

The use of antique armoires in contemporary settings has brought new life to
old pieces and secured their place for the future.

Having an antique armorie is like having an old friend that stands watch over you, offering a coat when you are cold, a door to slam when you are mad, a thing of beauty to rest your eyes upon when the world outside looks ugly.

A Magical Dining Room

This is the most magical room I've seen in a long time.  The crystal chandeliers, the fur wraps, sterling silver flatware, the dining room furniture...it's all so perfect.  I want to spend an evening in this sparkley, ethereal room, wearing something fabulous like this...

If I had that great pleasure I can guarantee you I would look much happier about it!

Secretary Desk as a Piece of Art

There are some pieces of furniture that qualify as pieces of art.  Secretary Desks are often in that special category.

A spectacular Biedermeier piece was used by Nate Berkus as a focal point in this room.  The ebonized details that accent the classical design are used as artistic exclamation points by the furniture maker whose interpretation of this period is genius.

A rustic secretary boasts time worn charm and a unique type of beauty.  Dating from the late 18th century, this Swedish charmer speaks volumes of the life it has witnessed.  The distressed finish only adds to it's value and beauty by providing depth and interest.

This magnificent piece appears to be the hub of the household while still displaying an antique crystal collections.  Used as the backdrop for artwork of the children, family photos, and storing mail, this secretary is both functional and beautiful!

Colorful Illumination

Colored crystal chandeliers are increasing in demand...and for good reason!
They are spectacular, and when used in the appropriate design application,
the result is artistic genius.

This Venetian masterpiece would be ideal in a space that provides appropriate design balance so as not to overpower a room but to allow the chandelier to take center stage.  The beauty is created with elaborate colored glass flowers, grape clusters, and leaves.  Offered by IMC Gallery through Center44,
this piece lists for $18,000.

A bit more subtle, but just a beautiful is this turquoise and clear crystal chandelier.  Used in a closet, this chandelier adds charm and whimsy and light to the dressing routine.

Bold and brilliant, this crimson red Murano glass chandelier, offered by the Robert J. Walsh & Co through Center44, is a spectacular example of Art Deco design.  With subtle but beautifully detailed flowers and leaves, this piece of light artwork lists for $6,500

This little gem, another closet installation, is made of black with clear crystals...a unique design that works well and creates a whimsical feel.

These Marjorie Skouras designs have been a huge hit and used by talented designers like Tobi Fairley. I love how unexpected they are and how perfect they are at creating a modern approach to a traditional design.

This chandelier is such a pretty color blue.  It looks great with the white walls and the blue rug.  I'm not sure I love the overstuffed chair, but the dining chairs and table are fabulous.

These two little pretties are diminutive and charming.
They are traditional with a colorful twist.

What are your thoughts on colored glass chandeliers?
Do you love'm?
Do you hate'm?
Would you have one?

You may have seen it here before.
