Sauna on Sunday

It seems like there could be nothing more relaxing than a Sauna on a Sunday.

The cleansing, healing and restorative benefits of the sauna have been known for centuries.

The warmth, the steam, the quiet and the calm all sound a most luxurious way to spend this sacred day.

A Princely Estate

Traditional meets modern in this princely estate dating from 1910 and situated along the shore on the east side of Lidingös.

Decorated with only the finest antiques and fabrics, this unique home is something to behold.

Decorated primarily in the Empire style, the living room showcases a pair of crystal chandeliers that represent the best quality while offering both electric bulbs and wax candles. The window treatments are firmly in the Empire style, also known as the Swedish Karl Johan period.  The round mahogany occasional tables and the settee along the wall are more beautiful examples from this well known era.

In addition to the Empire period, the Gustavian period is also represented in this home.  The lovely open barrel back chairgilt wall clock and gilt settee represent classic Gustavian design details.

The dining room boasts a second pair of crystal Empire chandeliers over the dining table, and a single smaller version in the charming alcove sitting area.  Both spaces look out over the wintry water.

A separate sitting room showcases a spectacular rock crystal chandelier as well as a beautiful and generously proportioned corner fireplace.  Again we see the pairing of both Empire and Gustavian antiques resulting in a beautiful space. The arm chairs are a well recognized Gustavian design sought after and reproduced all across the world.

The foyer showcases the Swedish flag, hinting to the possible government roll this homeowner may play.  The Rococo chairs and Gustavian table create a beautiful and inviting space.  The herringbone parquet floor echoes the traditional high end Swedish design trend of this home.

The kitchen, a traditional yet less formal room in this home, maintains the quality and elegance seen throughout.

A spectacular wine room holds hundreds of bottles, while a sitting space just to the right shows two beautiful pieces of Vinranka Flo Blu china.

The updated contemporary bathroom remind us that this is a homeowner with one foot firmly planted in the tradition of the past and the freshness of the present.

This bedroom, with spectacular views over the water, offers guest an elegant and sumptuous resting place.
